Mark W Tiedemann, AIA

CEO

Mark W. Tiedemann is an architect and real estate developer with more than three decades of experience. His practice focuses on hotels, resorts, and mixed-use development, working with owners and developers to balance design ambitions with construction costs and the practical demands of building.

Licensed as an architect since 1994, Mark leads MWT Architecture PC, bringing architecture, engineering, and interiors together through one coordinated team. The firm has completed 650+ hotel and resort projects, including properties under the Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, and Wyndham brands. Mark’s experience extends beyond the United States to international hotel and resort projects in Panama, Nigeria, Dubai, and Indonesia.

As a developer himself, Mark understands the investment behind a set of drawings. He places particular emphasis on early planning, when decisions about site layout, building systems, and project scope can materially affect cost and feasibility. He works with clients to evaluate those choices, identify opportunities for value engineering, and resolve construction issues while there is still time to adjust the design.

His interest in finding better ways to build has taken him well beyond his own projects. In Turku, Finland, he met with naval architects to study how the engineering of cruise ships could inform hotel and resort design. While working in Dubai, he helped develop prefabricated steel framing systems for hospitality projects. His work with building information modeling has also informed the firm’s approach to design coordination and planning.

Mark’s experience includes work on major developments such as the Destiny project in Syracuse, New York. He has also shared his perspective on hotel development with industry audiences, including as a panelist at the 2019 Hunter Conference in Atlanta.

His approach began on construction sites long before he became an architect. At twelve, Mark started working in his father’s construction business, where he learned the importance of clear communication, careful planning, and understanding how work gets done in the field. That experience remains central to his practice: think ahead, understand the details, and design with the people who will build and own the project in mind.

Since 1994, Mark’s goal has been to continually refine and perfect his firm’s approach to the hotel industry. Today, he believes he has created a form of highly specialized art of efficiencies, value engineering and great client relationships; the key has been in research and always looking forward.
